Total Number of Soldiers: There were 89,285 soldiers. There were 63,285 Union Soldiers and 26,000 Confederate Soldiers Known as: Appomattox Court House is known as the first major battle to happen on Palm Sunday, it was also known as one of the last battles officially ending the civil war.(Confederate General Robert E. Lee signed the surrender officially ending the Civil War)
Cause and Effect: The soldiers on the Union side initially wanted to surprise the Confederates, and were successful, but the Confederacy did fight back, but ultimately surrendered. This battle was a bust and really just a small battle that was toward the end.
Why is it Important: It's important because it was the battle that started the end of the civil war. Also this battle started the rebuilding the Union for after the war.
Effect on Slavery & War: This really had no effect on slavery, but this was the beginning of the end of the civil war. This was one of the biggest surrenders in Civil War history.
Advantages & Disadvantages of the North: Advantages - Had more people than the South, More Industrialized, Better fighting gear Disadvantages - Not very good generals, not familiar with the land.

How It Was Fought: :The Union formed a line of battle at Appomattox Court House. At dawn the Confederates advanced, initially gaining ground against Sheridan’s cavalry. Lee’s army was now surrounded on three sides. Lee surrendered to Grant on April 9.
