The Battle Of Gettysburg:
Dates: July 1-3, 1863.

Place/s Occurred: Gettysburg. Known as: Bloodiest battle and turning point of the war. Also it was known as the furthest North that the Confederates had invaded.
Number of Men: Total men on both sides: 165,620. There were 93921 union soldiers and 71699 confederate soldiers.
Cause/Effect: Robert E. Lee invades Gettysburg (to conquer the city since the South is losing the war at the time)/Armies collided at the hills. Lee’s second invasion of the the North failed.
Why is it important? It is important because it was considered as one of the turning points for the United States in the Civil War. The soldiers were lead by General Gordon Meade and they were able to defeat the Unions army. Also Abraham Lincoln said that the battle changed the meaning of why wars should be undertaken.
Effect on slavery and the war: This war did not officially end slavery but shortly after this battle Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation proclamation which was issued to abolish slavery.
Advantages and disadvantages of the North: The North had a bigger population, they were more industrialized, had access to more resources. Some disadvantages were that they didn't have very good generals, lesser knowledge of the land, and a lot of countries secretly supported the South.
Advantages and Disadvantages of the South: Some advantages of the South were that they had a better military, they also had better generals, and a lot of countries supported them more than they did for the North. However, they had must less poeple and supplies to keep the army going. Also during the battle, instead of surrendering when attacked and saving lives, Robert E. Lee chose to fight back, proving a bad decision. At the end, this caused their downfall. How it was fought: Robert E. Lee wanted to conquer Gettysburg, for the South was losing the war at the time and they needed new tactics.
